Today, we have the “world at our fingertips” in our iPhones and have the potential to learn literally anything from the internet. There are so many apps that we can get on our iPhones that can help us improve our productivity, focus, health and more. This month, the Sentinel Sun compiled a list of 11 apps that are super helpful! Scroll down to read about our favourite apps, all available for download on the App Store!
Flipboard is one of the best apps for news. It’s super easy to use. You simply select categories that you like (for example, ‘news’, ‘success’, ‘motivation’, ‘sports’, etc) and then Flipboard compiles current articles from news sites and blogs based on the categories that you like to create your own personal magazine. Flipboard is a tailored news app, it tailors articles to your interests. You also can save the articles you like into your own magazines on the app. Refresh your magazine and see new articles matching your interests every few hours!
Pinterest has everything! Be it recipes, room decor, quotes, travel, or fitness ideas, Pinterest is the one - stop shop for inspiration. Just like a bulletin board on a wall, you can “pin” images to your own personal boards. You also can upload and share your own images to Pinterest. With millions of pins, Pinterest is a great app if you’re looking for ideas inspiration or even random images.
Headspace
Headspace is a free app that offers short mindfulness meditation sessions. There is so much research about the benefits of meditation, and Headspace is a great app for anyone looking to start practicing meditation. It provides short, guided meditations for stress relief, relaxation, positivity and more.
Lumosity
Lumosity has “brain games!” With daily brain workouts to test your cognitive abilities, Lumosity has lots of math, language, puzzle and memory games that are fast and fun.
Momentum
Momentum is an easy to use app for tracking your habits. Whether it’s drinking more water, reading or doing homework, Momentum lets you track and set reminders to complete your daily, weekly or monthly habits and tracks your progress. By seeing your habit “streak,” Momentum can boost your willpower and motivation to maintain and start new habits.
Kitchen Stories
Kitchen Stories is a great app for finding recipes. You can filter recipes based on diet, cuisine, main ingredients, time it takes to make, etc. Kitchen Stories also offers tons of how - to videos and easy to follow recipes. The app also sorts recipes based on difficulty level, ratings and popularity, and you can see photos of the same meal made by other Kitchen Stories users. Kitchen Stories is definitely one of the best free cooking apps and is very interactive and user - friendly.
Shazam
Do you ever hear a song somewhere and can’t remember the song? Turn your phone on, click Shazam and it will instantly recognize the song playing. With just hearing a few seconds of the song, Shazam will recognize it and give you the option to add it to your iTunes or Spotify library.
Colorfy
Miss colouring, doodling or just want a relaxing hobby? Try Colorfy! Colorfy lets you color in images on your phone. It’s a great stress relaxer that lets you express your creativity.
Photomath
Stuck on a math question and can’t figure it out? Take a picture of the question and let Photomath solve it. It shows you step - by - step instructions on how to solve the problem in just seconds. Check out this article from the Sentinel Sun for more studying hacks!
Focus Keeper
Trying to be productive but getting distracted? Overwhelmed by deadlines and having no time? Try Focus Keeper! Focus Keeper helps you manage your time by setting timers to focus on a task and take breaks. Focus Keeper is based on the Pomodoro Technique, the idea that working in blocks of time (usually 25 mins) followed by a short break (usually 5 mins) is the best way to maintain focus and productivity. By setting strict times to work and to take breaks, Focus Keeper helps you stay efficient and avoid distraction. It’s a great app to use for study sessions and to help you to work faster by clearly blocking out your time.
OpenTable
OpenTable is an online reservation app, so you can easily schedule a reservation at any one of Vancouver’s 4600 restaurants. You can choose restaurants based on cuisines, regions, ratings, prices, and popularity. It’s super convenient and easy!
