Tips on Transitioning into the New Quarter

As we all begin our Quarter Two classes, students may find themselves facing difficulty in adjusting to their new schedules. Especially for our older students studying AP classes, we know that this is a hectic time for everyone! However, with the following tips, we hope to make the transition much easier and stress-free!

Tip #1: Familiarize yourself with your teachers.

Utilize your resources. Don’t be afraid to reach out to your Quarter 2 teachers for extra course information, notes for the upcoming unit and advice on different study methods - they are there to help you succeed! Taking time to examine the course’s general key ideas can help you understand the learning outcomes/goals for the year, and getting a head start with the course material is also beneficial as it can alleviate some pressure off of the first week of classes. Additionally, finding ways to improve your study habits is crucial for the success of your quarter, especially with senior grades and the hybrid system.

Tip #2: Use a planner or phone to keep track of your schedule.

With the minor changes to the quarter 2 schedule, navigating between when you should come to school or stay home gets even harder. Changing the days that Group A and B stay adds much more confusion to the already complicated model of hybrid learning. Keeping reminders on your phone or utilizing the school planner works wonders in organizing your weekly schedule for due dates, tests and quizzes. You can even make it decorative and try out some bullet journal spreads if you’re feeling creative! If you prefer to use your phone, we recommend the app “Egenda”. If you’re using your agenda, try to add different colours to represent different things! For example, red could represent a finished task, and blue could represent a postponed task. Colour coding might help you visualize your work and make it seem more manageable!

Tip #3: Befriend your classmates.

You find yourself sitting in your new first-period class within an air of awkward silence. You look around and realize “Oh no, none of my friends are in the same class as me”. We understand the struggle! Being by yourself in a class with a subject you already don’t enjoy can make it that much harder to stay motivated. Although the pandemic has made it difficult to meet new people, we do encourage you to make the most of your cohorts provided that you’re still following safety measures such as mask-wearing. It wouldn’t hurt to greet those sitting beside you or those within your desk group. Try following them on Instagram if you don’t already so that you can easily reach out to them if you need help!
