Mrs. Armstrong is a science, math and career life education teacher here at Sentinel. The Sentinel Sun sat down with Mrs. Armstrong to learn more about her teaching philosophy, upcoming Antarctica trip and hobbies.
Mrs. Armstrong is originally from Ontario and moved to the West Coast when she was 19 to pursue a biochemistry degree and for varsity snowboarding at SFU.
Mrs. Armstrong – The Teacher
Mrs. Armstrong lights up when she talks about her students and her hopes for them. The one thing she hopes her students learn from her is, “to be themselves and to discover and advocate for what’s important to them.” For Mrs. Armstrong, her philosophy is “that school is a place where each student and teacher has the opportunity to live, learn and grow.”
Mrs. Armstrong – The Trailblazer
Mrs. Armstrong is a trailblazer in adventures; she is taking high school students on a two week expedition to Antarctica in December 2019! This will be the first time a high school in Canada is enabling students to have this once – in a lifetime opportunity. We asked Mrs. Armstrong about how she thought of organizing the trip and she explains that she “always looks for opportunities that cultivate connection, awe, wonder, inspiration and possibility.” Mrs. Armstrong hopes that this trip allows students to “disconnect to reconnect” – to disconnect from their current reality and reconnect with themselves and the earth.
