Mother’s Day in Quarantine: 6 Last-minute Ways to Celebrate

Although social isolation limits us in how we celebrate Mother’s Day this Sunday, May 10th, it can still be a special day for Mom. This article is for you if you’re looking for ways to break the monotony of quarantine and do something memorable for her!

1. Have a bouquet delivered Not only would we be supporting local small businesses, but the beautiful flowers will (literally) brighten up her day! Local markets often have a lovely selection of flowers too.

2. Do chores without her asking

Don’t we all hate doing the dishes, including Mom? This can even be extended into a “Mother’s Week” to go the extra mile--volunteering for less-than-fun chores around the house that she would have done herself.

3. Make her food

  • Breakfast in bed has proven itself time and time again to be a feasible, much-appreciated gesture.

  • In addition, the weather forecast for Sunday is looking good--sunny weather calls for a backyard lunch picnic! Set up sandwiches, lemonade, and snacks for a memorable and homely Mother’s Day.

  • Those who are talented in the kitchen can even cook dinner for the family. Set it up with the nice cutlery and plates--why not a toast to Mom and all her hard work while we’re at it?

  • If your baking is your thing, bake her a special week-long batch of her favorite brownie/cookie/cupcake that she can indulge in all week. Add a special touch with a handwritten note or a ribbon.

4. DIY You don’t have to be an arts and crafts enthusiast to make a personalized card, or simply go through old photos and make a photo collage--easy gifts that go a long way.

5. Plan an “event” Often it’s Mom who plans and organizes family game nights, movie nights, excursions, etc, so let’s reverse it this Sunday. While it may not seem like a big deal--only requiring a little extra thought--it means the world to her.

  • Spa day-- Manicure, pedicure, massage coming right up--she probably hasn’t been to the nail salon in a long time.

  • Home Hollywood--watch a movie you both like, and make it special by preparing her favorite snacks and drinks to enjoy home entertainment together. Did someone say Netflix?

6. Take a walk with her Simple, yes, but a pleasant surprise all the same.

The big idea behind these 6 celebration ideas is to make her feel special--not necessarily grand gestures, but thoughtful ones. Tomorrow is all about Mom! Especially in times like these, spreading happiness and kindness is more necessary and appreciated than ever.
