Meet Sentinel's New Counsellor, Mr. Pather!

At Sentinel, we strive to always welcome new members into our community with open arms! Mr. Pather, from the counselling suite, is a very appreciated addition to our school. Let’s get to know him!

What is your favourite thing about Sentinel (so far!)?

Mr. Pather: I really like how friendly students are toward me. I walk through the hall and students I haven’t even met, smile and say hello... [they are] so warm and caring.

What is one key piece of advice that you would give to Sentinel students?

Mr. Pather: You can’t always choose your classes or teachers, and in life, you have to be flexible. Focus on the learning and not the grade. Find ways to motivate yourself with the material given. It will all work out in the end because learning is a lifelong activity.

What’s a fun fact about yourself that students wouldn't know?

Mr. Pather: I spent some time in the Canadian Navy after high school. I went through basic training and graduated at the top of my division.

How would you describe yourself?

Mr. Pather: I am a lot like many of the students in this school; I strive to be the best that I can be. This is best illustrated by changing schools and changing teaching positions to work at Sentinel.

He also states that he is “stuck in the 80s"; his favourite artist is Bon Jovi! His favourite movie is Top Gun (and jokingly claimed he likes to think of himself as an East Indian Tom Cruise!). He loves sports, especially football (soccer), which he has both played and coached; for sports fans, his favourite team this year “(besides the Whitecaps) is Tottenham Hotspurs with Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.” The best job he had before Sentinel was working at McDonald's (locally— Marine Drive!) because he made many friends who lived across the North Shore, and developed organizational skills and a strong work ethic that is still prevalent in his work today.

Favourite ice cream flavour?

Mr. Pather: I like chocolate and chocolate chip mint.

Do you have any pets?

Mr. Pather: A Toy Poodle named Snowball...a yappy little thing!

How can students best reach you (email, office, etc)?

Mr. Pather: Just drop by my office in the counselling suite. If I’m busy, we can schedule a time to meet. Otherwise, feel free to email me at bpather@wvschools.ca with any concerns you may have.

Anything else you'd like to say to the readers?

Mr. Pather: Always be hopeful for a better future and always work towards it!
