Make this Spring Break Different!

With the weather shifting towards a more subtle feel, the school not being in session, and plenty of time on our hands, we might still be confused as to what we can do to get out of the house and enjoy our time during spring break. Here at the Sentinel Sun, we have gathered a ton of activities you can do to change your mood and make this spring break a highlight of your year!

Explore the Outdoors

They say you first have to climb up a mountain to enjoy the beautiful view at the top. Fight the urge to act as a couch potato while watching Netflix, and instead, take yourself to the hearth of nature and go on hikes! Here are a number of pulchritudinous trails you can take to brighten up your mood:

Cypress (Bowen) Lookout: This hike has a stunning trail that goes all the way up to Cypress Mountain, making up for its relatively high difficulty level. You can enjoy the light breeze coming from the waterfall and take pictures of its photogenic scenery. This hike is very convenient, as it is located in West Vancouver, BC V0N 1G0, and is easy for people living in the North Shore to get to. Don't let the trauma from PE class hold you back from going on this hike again, as this time, you can go up at your own pace and enjoy the ride!

Alice Lake: this lake is one of the most therapeutic, calming, yet beautiful lakes you will ever witness, and the enjoyable trail leading up to it makes the overall experience even more pleasant. The trail is not steep at all, so anyone with minimum hiking experience can try going through it as well. All you need to take off to heaven would be two earbuds with music along with the chirping of the birds next to the clear water after getting to the top of the trail.

Places to visit

Despite the beautiful places you could be exploring outside, if you’re still adamant about staying indoors, there are various places indoors that you can visit!

Vancouver Art Gallery: Whether you are an artist, an art-lover or someone who is looking for a chic place to wander around and have a rich experience, the Vancouver Art Gallery is the perfect place for you. The gallery has a collection of over 12,000 pieces of work which you can enjoy and is actively growing by several hundreds of artworks per year. The collection includes pieces from local artists, indigenous art, contemporary art form Asia, as well as photoconceptualism.

Vancouver Civic Theaters: we all need to detach from our busy lives once in a while, and a perfect way to do that is by booking a seat to a performance in one of Vancouver’s Civic Theaters. There are a variety of performances ranging from classical to comedy, and the venues which they are hosted in are absolutely breathtaking. For instance, there is a magnificent ballet performance called “VIDF: The Sun and the Moon” which is taking place this week.

Laserdome: If you’re looking for more of a physical activity, then try going laser tagging at Vancouver’s very own Laserdome Arena. Laser Tag is an activity for all ages and also hosts some of the best birthday parties and corporate events. But really, you can drop in any time for a drop in session to have some fun with your friends while stepping out of your comfort zone.

Food!

Eating is a staple joy in all of our lives, and we are sure it is the one thing that can bring the most happiness to all of us. Here are a number of new places in which you can satisfy your urgent cravings:

Barcelos: Based on personal experience, Barcelos - with a garnish of magnificent Portuguese Cuisine - has one of the most high quality foods. There are a number of branches throughout North Shore, but after having put all of them to test (fulfilling stellar Barcelos fan duties), the one located in North Vancouver is by far the best one. Quoting one of its workers: “Barcelos is a halal, updated version of Nandos” (2020, Barcelos Employee).

Lift Breakfast Bakery: The restaurant is situated on Lower Lonsdale and is the perfect location to go for brunch with your family and friends. They’re famous for their egg benedict and their incredible breakfast sandwiches. Dining there is an experience you really don’t want to miss out on!

Daddy’s Grill: Again, based on personal experience, this restaurant is one of the best Middle Eastern restaurants in the Vancouver area. Persians, in particular, always complain that the kebabs they eat in Iran don't compare to the ones here, but Daddy’s Grill has mastered the recipe of all of its dishes, and takes you straight to Iran. It might be a bit far since it's located in Richmond, but it's totally worth the drive at least once during the break!

Events happening in the Spring of 2022

There are also special events which are going to happen for a limited time that you won’t want to miss out on. Here is just one of the many events taking place that may interest you!

FlyOver Canada: Want to experience soaring through the skies of places all over the world? Then hurry and book your tickets at FlyOver Canada which utilizes state of art technology to give you the feeling of flight! The space is equipped with special effects including wind, mist, and scents to give you an unforgettable experience!

Now you won’t need to worry about being bored and having nothing to do over spring break! Hopefully, this list will help you narrow down your entertainment options for you to spend some quality time with your family, friends, or even just by yourself.
