Also known as the Chinese New Year or Spring Festival, this Lunar New Year landed on February 12th, 2021 and is the Year of the Ox. The 15-day festival consists of many celebrations, from reunion dinner to the lantern festival. Another tradition is to read the zodiac predictions and check out what’s in store for the upcoming year!
According to Susan Levitt, a professional astrologer and author of five books, including Taoist Astrology, Success will come to those who work hard in 2021. She suggests that hard work, duty, and discipline will be key to a prosperous year - this is because Oxen are often considered strong and reliable animals and the agricultural industry. Below are more specific readings for each zodiac sign:
1. Rat Horoscope - Born in the years: 2021, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008,
Only separated by a year, the Rat and the Ox are very closely related. As a result, the Rat is put in a relatively good position with fewer hardships and troubles. But, with this close relationship comes a responsibility to put forth a little more effort to match the Ox’s dedications and consistent labour.
2. Ox Horoscope - Born in the years: 1913, 1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, and 2021.
With the proper mindset, it will be a positive and productive year for the Ox. Be patient as your hard work will eventually be rewarded. Levitt also says that “It’s an excellent year for having a child, starting a family, and marriage for the Ox.” If that does not apply to you, it will also be a good time to focus on friendships!
3. Tiger Horoscope - Born in the years: 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010
This year may be frustrating for the Tiger because of the Ox’s strong and stubborn work ethic. However, if the Tiger controls its temper and accepts the struggles of 2021, it could lead to a very good year. Especially since 2022 will be the year of the Tiger, Levitt suggests that Tigers should work on themselves by completing any unfinished projects and consider the good fortunes awaiting them in the following year.
4. Rabbit Horoscope - Born in the years: 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011
Like the Tiger, the Rabbit may experience a struggle this year. Due to a combination of both one’s own standards and unrealistic expectations set by others, the Rabbit is likely to feel frustrated - especially if rewards are delayed and things take more time than anticipated. Nevertheless, Levitt encourages those who were born in the year of the Rabbit to be patient. This is not the year to make quick and irrational decisions.
5. Dragon Horoscope - Born in the years: 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012
2020 was a relatively lucky year for the Dragon but things will change in the year of the Ox. While that isn’t to say that 2021 is filled with bad luck for the Dragon, Levitt advises those born in the year of the Dragon to “Expect a year of steady progress in the reaping of activities begun in the previous Rat year.” Rather than relying on wishful thinking, the Dragon must work hard this year to achieve its goals!
6. Snake Horoscope - Born in the years: 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013
As compared to 2020, the Snake will be slightly better off in 2021. This is a fortunate year for the Snake because it is in harmony with the Ox and the Rooster. Unlike the previous year, the Snake’s efforts will be rewarded. But, be sure to be cautious of the Ox’s stubborn influence, which can make the Snake unreasonable or demanding. The Snake should be mindful of how it handles difficult situations and relationships this year.
7. Horse Horoscope - Born in the years: 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014
As the Rat’s natural opposite, the past year was a particularly difficult year for the Horse. Luckily, this year, the Ox will not be as hostile. The Horse will succeed in 2021 by maintaining control in personal interactions as romantic relationships may be problematic. This is because the Horse is easily excitable - be cautious about that and 2021 will be a prosperous year!
8. Goat (or Sheep) Horoscope - Born in the years: 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015
This can be a challenging year for the Goat because of the differences seen with the Ox. This year, the Goat may feel as if it cannot create new opportunities and is stuck in the same repetitive cycle. Instead, Levitt suggests for the Goat to “develop structure, reduce clutter, and stay focused.” As the Ox is a simple and straightforward creature, this year can be turned around by staying on task and being optimistic.
9. Monkey Horoscope - Born in the years: 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, 2016
Described as clever and sometimes scheming, the Monkey may try to avoid the work-oriented Ox in 2021. This can occur through a messenger or a liaison. However, it is not recommended that those born in the year of the Monkey refuse the Ox’s call for dedicated labour. By helping the Ox and complying with their requests, this can be a successful and prosperous year for the Monkey.
10. Rooster Horoscope - Born in the years: 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005, 2017
The rooster is the luckiest in this upcoming year, as its values most closely match with those of the Ox. The two are very compatible due to the Rooster’s hardworking nature. This year, the Ox provides the Rooster with stability, faithfulness, and sincerity that it likes. Levitt encourages the Rooster to be happy, triumphant, and bounce back from the previous year’s difficulties. Stay true to your nature and this year will be both fun and successful.
11. Dog Horoscope - Born in the years: 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, 2018
The Dog might not be so lucky in 2021 - however, these problems are only minor. The differing perspectives between the Ox and the Dog cause some conflict between the two. While the Ox prefers to stay true to their plans, the Dog enjoys trying new things. As a result, Dogs may be faced with some resistance in the upcoming year but Levitt suggests that those who fall in the year of the Dog ultimately follow their heart.
12. Pig Horoscope - Born in the years:1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007, 2019
As long as the Pig abides by the Ox’s rules, it will be a successful and harmonious year. For example, there could be career opportunities that arise from adopting the Ox’s strong work ethic. This is especially fitting as Pig people are naturally realistic and goal-oriented. Those born in the year of the Pig should remain diligent in their efforts and luck will follow.
