Holiday Season at Sentinel: Fun With The French Immersion Committee

Hey Spartans! As we inch towards the winter holidays, many Sentinel clubs are organizing events and festivities to celebrate, as they have done in previous years. This year, however, even the French Immersion Committee is in on the fun. I know that probably sounds like the most uncool thing ever to exit Santa’s bag, but hear me out: Sentinel’s Comité d’immersion française is the epitome of Sentinel’s francophone vibe, and the French Immersion equivalent of the student council. This year, they’re going all out to celebrate the holidays and la francophonie, and they’ve bundled the holiday spirit into some ~sweet~ events.

1. Pastry sale / Vente de pâtisseries

Anyone up for some macarons? Well, on December 6th at lunch in the foyer, the French Immersion Committee will be selling macarons along with madeleines, home-baked chouquettes, and éclairs. What better way to celebrate the season than authentically delicious French pastries? You can pre-order your pastries today by filling out this form; pre-orders are at a discounted price; all the more reason to order early and get your hands on some tasty treats!

2. Movie night / Soirée de filme

Get ready for a movie night! That’s right, the Comité is organizing a screening of Astérix: domaine des dieux. Admission is free, and the event will take place on December 15th, during X-block, in room 306; you can even purchase popcorn, maple candy, and other snacks to accompany you through your movie-watching experience.

Astérix is originally an iconic comic series set in the time of the Roman Empire depicting the adventures of Asterix and Obelix, two Gallic warriors who fight fearlessly to protect their diminutive village from the Romans. You could say that it is culturally equivalent to Calvin and Hobbes! The movie will be played in French, with French subtitles; whether or not you’re familiar with the language, Astérix offers an entertaining experience that will transcend any language barrier to make you laugh heartily ahead of the holidays.

3. Crepes & Pancakes / Journée de crêpes (in collaboration with the Student Council)

Did you love last year’s pancake breakfast? Well you’re going to love this year’s crepe and pancake day even more! The committee is collaborating with the student council to bring you Sentinel’s very first pancake AND crepe day on December 16th! If there’s anything better than pancakes, it’s crepes with pancakes. Keep an eye out for more information from the student council and the committee, and you can look forward to a seriously yummy season at Sentinel!

For more details on the pastry sale and movie night, you can check out the French Immersion Committee on Instagram (@comitefrancaissentinel). Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go pre-order some éclairs while humming “Jingle Bells” out of tune. G’day!
