As the cooler weather starts to kick in, and the days of spending time outside without rain are
over, a cozy night in with some good entertainment is much needed!
Here are some fall movie and television show recommendations, all available on Netflix, that
you can enjoy from the comfort of your couch.
Enola Holmes
Rating: PG-13
Type: Film
Previous fans of Sherlock Holmes (in any context!), this one is for you. Travel with Enola, sister
of Sherlock, as she searches for her missing mother and rivals her brother in his sleuth
adventures. The piece, focusing on themes of individuality, equality and freedom, earned a
critics review score of 90%. The undertones of this movie are so important for teenagers: the
idea of ‘finding yourself’ that Enola portrays is not only heartwarming for us but relatable to a
degree. Starring Milly Bobby Brown, this mystery adds a new perspective to the beloved
Holmes empire.

Social Distance
Rating: TV-MA
Type: Series
Released only recently, this series follows the narrative that we’ve all been living recently.
Filmed while in isolation, Social Distance is a TV show which highlights how people are striving to stay connected while staying apart due to COVID-19. Due to the fact that there are very few other entertainment outlets on this topic, this show sets a new genre for media to which almost everyone can relate to in some way. There are no critic reviews yet, however, the sentimental, emotional tone of the show will definitely tug on your heartstrings. If you’re into intimate, personal shows that depict truthful, hard events, take a look at season one today!

Coraline
Rating: PG
Type: Film
While this is not a recent film, as Halloween grows closer, I wanted to include my favourite
‘spooky’ movie. Follow Coraline Jones, a young girl who finds an alternative universe hidden
right in her own home, and both the adventures and dangers to which it leads. Made almost
entirely using claymation, the aesthetics of the film are unique and the details are incredibly
intricate; therefore, it is such an intriguing film to watch. This is a children’s movie, so while it
can be enjoyed by a lot of ages, there are some themes that may be scary for some so keep that in mind! Overall, Coraline has a 90% critics review rating, and my stamp of approval for a great movie (possibly my favourite of all time!), but take my word however you want.
