AP Exams: A Post-Mortem

At around 4pm on Monday, May 17th, AP students spilled out of the front doors of the field house for what would be the last time this school year. This marked the end of Sentinel’s AP exam season, which consisted of over 15 different exams administered over the course of 2 weeks. With the end of these exams marking the last hurdle of the school year for many of Sentinel’s senior students, let’s recap how some of these exams went (no spoilers though!).

Overall, students came to a consensus that this year’s AP exams went generally as expected. Exams that students often find easier went well, and notoriously difficult exams remained challenging. When asked what this year’s most difficult exams were, Sentinel students remained spread across the board, with some of the most popular answers including AP Physics, AP Calculus, AP Statistics, and AP Chemistry. Similarly, common themes emerged from students when asked: “what’s one thing you wish you would have known/done?” These include:

  • Dress warm. Even if it’s sunny outside, the fieldhouse is almost never comfortably warm. It’s much easier to focus on the exam in front of you when you’re not shivering!

  • Learn to write fast. Especially for exams with long written FRQs such as AP Literature and AP Language—building stamina in your hands will help you focus on your thinking rather than your printing.

  • Take care of yourself! As much as we hear it, getting a good night’s sleep and eating a good breakfast or lunch before your exams will be so much more helpful than trying to cram in those last 8 vocabulary terms.

With some students completing upwards of 6 AP exams, it is no understatement to say that the completion of AP exam season is not a small feat. Add onto that the fact that this year’s test-takers wrote exams after the first year of the quarter system, and the completion of AP exams is nothing short of remarkable. Through tired sighs and relieved smiles, Sentinel’s AP test-takers should be incredibly proud of what they’ve accomplished this year, whether they have taken 1 or 7 exams. Congratulations on your achievements Spartans! We hope your exams were everything you’ve ever dreamed of.
